Brian EpstEIN: Watershed Benefits Director

Multiple Benefit Performance Specialist, Hydrologist, Water Resource Analyst, Field Monitoring Specialist, Quality Assurance Specialist, Senior Researcher

Water fascinates Brian. No one thinks about it unless there is a problem. Brian has worked for more than a decade on water sustainability, by determining the amount of water necessary to keep the natural environment functioning, the amount of groundwater that can be sustainable extracted, the water available for voluntary water rights transactions, the infrastructure necessary for water measurement, developing and implementing small reservoir operation plans, and understanding the extent of groundwater contamination issues. Wet rivers and clean available water go a long way to keeping people's minds off of water.

Like so many, the un-remarkableness of Brian’s life is what makes it remarkable. During the day he focuses on water sustainability and nights and weekends trying to be the best father and husband he can be: teaching kids Jiu Jitsu, chauffeuring spawn to their activities, cooking colorful family meals, hanging with friends, and trying to remember to find ways to let his partner know the world would be less special without her.

The list of activities that bring Brian joy are numerous: reading, jiu jitsu, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, paddle boarding, surfing, soccer, and some good old fashioned adventure travel.

"Life is not the way it's supposed to be, it's the way it is. The way you cope with that is what makes the difference." - Virginia Satir
